Momnesia is real. Clinically speaking, it is a slow onset disease in which a woman becomes a mother and can no longer remember her phone number, her underwear or what she walked into the room for. Many doctors believe this disease may be caused by lack of sleep, excessive selflessness or unnatural amounts of multitasking.
Momnesia still has light-years to go to gain public acceptance. Women everywhere are currently working on allowing Momnesia victims rights under the Americans with Disabilities Act. This would allow people with Momnesia the right to call home from the grocery store to make sure they did not forget anything, even if it is holding up the checkout line. It would also allow them the right to end a conversation abruptly because they forgot what they were saying and then to say, “Oh yeah, now I remember,” at anytime, even if it interrupts your conversation. They would also have the right to make waitresses wait while they try to recollect what they decided to order and to, on occasion, burn the soup.
The more this disease is accepted as a viable concern, the more moms everywhere can relax and feel understood. We must continue to work toward this goal of equal rights until the day moms everywhere can say, “Sorry, Momnesia,” and receive a gentle knowing nod from their company without feeling embarrassed.
What rights would you advocate for Momnesia victims?

I first became a mother eleven years ago and while it was difficult in the beginning, I feel blessed everyday that I made the choice to adopt him. His name is Kelev (an americanized version of the Hebrew word for “dog”) and he has been my baby and my best friend long before I was ever married or gave birth to a little girl.
I dread the day my beloved canine passes away, the heartbreak I would face, the heavy and nonrefillable void he would leave behind.
But there is another reason it will be truly traumatic when Kelev passes onto doggie heaven. He represents another time in my life, a time when, you can say, I was someone else. Out of college, with a puppy riding shotgun, I hit the road to travel west where, side by side, we encountered tragedy, love, loss, bliss and adventure. My twenties were a time of great independence and fearlessness for me that I think back on wistfully and sometimes, even with longing. Kelev and I eventually made our way up to Alaska, the promised land for dogs where it is unusual to have only one because some people have over forty. This is where I met my husband. And for Kelev, Eric quickly became a part of our family tribe or, more specifically, our pack. Kelev was the ring bearer at our wedding and my in-laws frequently watch him, their precious grand-doggy, when we travel by plane.

I have to admit something: I am the type of person who starts off a project all gung-ho, giving 110%, and various other cliches. Then life happens and hobbies tend to fall by the wayside. Take my blog. Or should I say blogS. All three of them. In the blogosphere, my daughter is still 19-months old, I am a disgruntled office worker, and the infertility demons are winning our war.
Real life is much different: my daughter is officially into her “terrible twos”, I am a (sometimes disgruntled) stay-at-home-mom, and the demons, well, let’s just say there’s an uneasy truce… for now. But one thing has kept my attention for a while now, and that is Facebook. By default, my status updates have become my blog, and thank goodness for it. There is certainly memory gold in unexpected places. Here’s a sampling:
Robyn is…
wondering how she ever managed to use the bathroom before having a toddler to tell her how it’s done. Or not done, as the case may be.
on the receiving end of multiple Ella kisses, and a few nose chompies just for funsies.
wondering if it’s wrong to hope for a two-hour nap from Ella today. Quite frankly, I could use one, too!
having fun translating Ella. “Nanoo Mommy tean boobie” is “Thank you, Mommy, for the clean diaper.”
trying to believe it was so we could have Ella. Right???
So there it is, some of the good, the bad, and the ugly. But here is the note that gets me every time:
still shocked sometimes at just how much she loves her little girl.
I encourage you to go out and round up all of the ways you document your little one’s childhood so you don’t forget the smallest detail. And, if some memories happen to be on Facebook, head on over and become a friend of WhatEveryBabyNeeds.com while you’re there!

Well the holidays have come and gone and things are almost back to normal at our house. We had a chance to catch up with our grandbabies. Frankly, grandma and I were tired out from all the running around and playing. Who knew that a 3 year old had so much energy. I can’t remember our kids having that much “get up and go”. Maybe it’s the food or the fact that she spent almost a day in the car getting to our house. In any event it sure was a good time. We also got to see some of the baby nieces in the family this holiday who recently moved back into the area. It’s so much fun to sit and watch the next generation “bonding”.
The new sweaters that we gave the kids came in handy as two of them just moved back north from the warm climate of the south. First year back north and they are experiencing one of the longest and coldest winters we’ve had in years.
Hot chocolate and cookies after a snow ball fight or sleigh ride is just what everyone needed (grandpa had wine but who’s looking).
Can’t wait until spring to get outside and play with all the new toys.
Until then. Have fun shopping.
I’ve been pretty lucky that up to now, my 21 month old has never really cared about her pacifier. She’d use one for about 1/2 hour at bedtime while reading stories, then take it out of her mouth when put down in her crib. This past week though things changed. There are a couple of kids that use pacifiers throughout the day at daycare — could she want to fit in with her ‘friends’?
She wants it all he time, regardless of whether at home or out and I’ve had to stock up so I always have one on hand or else a toddler tantrum is sure to erupt. And it has to be her Yellow one. Or her Purple one. At a moment’s notice the color preference can change. I’m thinking of wearing an always attractive hip pack to keep them close. Is it a phase? Who knows. I’d love to hear about other’s pacifier stories and how you feel about pacifier use with your little ones!
